Becoming Minimalist

With a new year approaching, many of us are setting goals, and making plans for 2019.  I think the most common New Year's resolutions pertain to health and fitness (lose weight and exercise more) and finances (spend less, save more).

This time last year my husband and I went through our garage, eliminated some things we no longer used, and reorganized everything else.  A few months later, in the Spring, I went through my crafting items, eliminating even more.  How did we accumulate so much?  It really doesn't matter.  I'm telling you, though, it felt great to let those things go!  Fast forward 6 months, and our garage was just as messy as it was before our big clean out!  Does this sound familiar?

With a move coming up (we bought an old house that we're remodeling and preparing to move into), I've been dreading moving all of our belongings, so I started eliminating.  I've given things away that we no longer use, donated items, sold other items, and trashed some as well.  I say I "started", because we still have way too much stuff!  My home has never been what most people consider cluttered.  In fact, there was a time (before children) that people would visit and say that our home looked like a model home. When child 3 came along (thank God), our home wasn't as organized as it was before.  Then going from working part-time to full-time, it feels like I spend all of my hours at home cleaning, doing laundry, and organizing our "stuff".

It was probably about a year ago that I started following Joshua Becker's Becoming Minimalist on Facebook.  Posts like these got my attention:

Intrigued, and knowing there is truth in these posts. I have finally made the decision that I  want less things and more time!  Where did I start?  I downloaded Joshua Becker's new book, "The Minimalist Home" to my Kindle app, and I read the whole book in one night.   Instead of making 3 personal goals as my New Year's resolution, I've decided to make just one.  My one plan is to MINIMIZE belongings.  After reading Minimalist Home, I'm certain that by owning less, I will have so much more!

I recommend this book.  Of course, you should download it rather than buy a hard copy.  Buy it on Amazon here.

Love where you live!
